I made a giant French fancy cake last night. I coloured white icing with pink icing & the cake was put into the fridge. The cake had since lost it's colour any idea why? Is it because of putting it in the fridge
Tinted icing needs to sit for a few hours for the color to set. You really don't know what you've got until after that time. It can become darker or lighter- it's kind of mysterious that way.

This exactly...Plus, red food color tends to be the most volatile in terms of fading. I had a purple cake turn blue in the space of an hour once.
