On February 11th I will be doing my first big cake. I plan on using the oval Wilton pan set. I love oval cakes. Anyway, my question is how do I figure out how many cake mixes I'll need to the pan size???

The sizes of the pans are the following:

7 3/4 X 5 5/8

10 3/4 X 7 7/8

13 1/2 X 9 7/8

16 1/2 X 12 3/8

Also, if you could give me a good guess on the amount of icing that I'll need to ice to cakes. I plan on using the European buttercream icing.

Thanks so much for the help. I don't have a digital camera....yet, so I won't be able to post a photo of the cake. I plan on getting a camera out of our income tax return!! LOL!!

Thanks for all of the help!!

Thanks for the web site. I see that it goes by cups per cake pan.

How many cups are in one box mix???? That's where I get stuck icon_redface.gif

Short of mixing several boxes of mix I don't know how to figure it out. Does anyone have any suggestion??? Thanks you! icon_biggrin.gif

If your using Duncan Hines that info is on the inside of each cake mix box. I think it's 5 1/2 cups per box of mix. But look to make sure~
