I'm doing my first minecraft cake and wanted to do panels for the side and let them dry to get a firm side - can I cut them after they dry or will they crack?  Anyone try this?

Thanks,

Judi

I've tried it before, and they broke. It is easier to let the dumpster firm up a bit before cutting the shape and it doesn't lose its shape. Usually 5 to 10 minutes is good timing for me.

I've tried it as well, you can trim but actually cutting will yield more cracks than squares.

I want to assemble the panels before time then just attach them to the cake.  Figured dry would hold up the best.  but didn't know if I'd be able to adjust them at all.

What you can do is cut them before hand and lightly cover them with plastic wrap and keep them in cardboard boxes.  They will be firmer but still have a little give so they can still be trimmed and curve to the cake. Keep enough of the same colors so you can roll and cut the last squares to fit perfectly on the back of the cake.
