I really have no idea but I bought powdered sugar at Sam's Club and it said 10x on it.

the x# indicates how fine the sifting screens are. . 10x is generally better, but 6x can work out fine for many things.

For the super-small decorating tips, 10x and multiples siftings will be essential to keep the tips from clogging.

6x or 10x doesn't refer to how many times its been sifted. It refers to the partical size of the sugar. Depending on what your using for will depend how well it will work for application. I use 6x for icing because 6x contains less cornstarch in it. The finer the partical of sugar the more cornstarch is in the sugar to keep it from clumping. I find that I get my best results for icing with 6x sugar.

I have checked the bags at the store and was unable to see where it says this on the bag.
