I am doing a cookie that has dark icing and white icing. Which would you do first? The majority of the cookie has a dark grey icing all over but there is white icing too.
I'm making these:

Anyway - what would you do first? These are my first cookies and I really don't know anything other than baking them - which I'm good at.![]()
I made them with the NFSC recipe. Also, I'm shipping this from Georgia to Ohio, what RI recipe would you use? I know Antonia's is great, but if it doesn't dry 100% as I think I've read, would you use that?

Definitely do the white first, if you try to do white over the grey it may show through. As for the best icing, I am not sure but I would have to agree with JoAnnB, leave enough room and put padding between each layer and they should be fine.

I would do the dark first on the body, white first on the head. I don't think you'll get the right look if you do the white belly before the grey background. Below is an example of cookies where I added light pink over dark brown with no problem.
I haven't looked at Antonia's recipe. My recipe is 1# sugar+3T meringue powder+6T water beaten til stiff peaks. Mix in 2T corn syrup and 1-2 tsp flavoring. Thin with water. It dries hard, but doesn't shatter when you bite into it.
Thank you so much everyone! I can't wait to do these, though my kids got into the ones I already baked and I have to do more.
At least I have the cookie cutter for it!

It really depends on how you are coloring your black and what icing... I've found from experience if you use gel coloring the dye tends to run, so I would let it dry fully if you are using that. other than that I would do white first.
Also, those cowboy cookies are beautiful!
