I want to find a good recipe for chocolate buttercream to use on cupcakes like birthday vanilla or chocolate cake with chocolate bc.  I only use butter in my icing and I do not like meringue type bc.

I have tried making ganache and mixing it with regular bc and I have tried making bc with cocoa and with melting wafers.  My biggest problem is that I hate chocolate icing...I always have, even as a kid.  I don't have a good reference point because I would rather scrape off the icing than eat it.

Obviously customers like chocolate frosting on cupcakes so I will make something but what is the best for birthday cupcakes?

Also, what is a scratch equivalent to the chocolate fudge icing? Is that just a whipped ganache?  If so, do you prefer milk chocolate, semi-sweet or dark?

Hershey's has a wonderful recipe on the back of their cocoa powder container. I believe it is called perfectly chocolate icing. It's very simple and delicious.

^^^ I second that! Hands down winner.

And use Hershey's cocoa---hated the Nestle one!
