I am having the hardest time getting a true red frosting!!
I make my own buttercream. I add the Wilton gel color in RED and it seemed pink. I decided to go with a different color because it was a cake for a boy.
Will it get more red once it sits for a while?
I cannot achieve a good, true red!
Help!
It's always best to make those primary/dark/intense colors at least the night before needing them as it takes time to develop the color.
Here are a few helpful hints:
Start by coloring your white icing orange, yellow or pink. That way you will use much less red to get a red color.
Mix it up at least the night before or longer.
Use about a teaspoon UNsweetened KoolAid powder mixed well into your base colored icing. This will flavor and color the b'cream. I always used Black Cherry but any red colored flavor works.
