Candy Melts For Cookie Icing
Baking By MariaLovesCakes Updated 26 Jan 2007 , 12:32am by cookiecreations
Have any of you tried using Candy Melts as icing for your cookies?
I was reading the Wilton yearbook and they were saying to melt the candy melts as usual and then just pour it over the cookies until completely covered.
How does it taste? Is it too sweet?
Thanks.
Have you ever eaten those iced animal cookies? It is much like that. It would probably help the be sure the chocolate is fairly thin-paramount crystal or shortening should help.
Candy clay works just as well, with a bit less mess, with a different look.
Okay, thanks. I will probably give them a try!
I use them all the time, but not as a full covering. I place melted melts (ooooh! that sounds funny!) in a disposable pastry bag, cut a small hole in the end and drizzle them across the cookie for a striped effect. I don't thin it down or anything, but the result may be different if you are covering the whole cookie.
Here's a closeup of my lemon cookies with the melted chocolate drizzled over it. Other pics are on our cookie website.

I did the same thing as indydebi, just drizzled chocolate over the cookies. Others I've topped the cookie with a dollop of chocolate ganache (white and/or dark) then drizzled chocolate over that and the taste is out of this world! Not too sweet, a great blend of flavors!
