Making Flowers...different Shades
Decorating By stephanie214 Updated 22 Sep 2005 , 7:33pm by stephanie214
When doing fondant or gumpaste flowers, do you have to stick with the main colors of real flowers or can you do whatever colors you need?
If I do daisies, which is white with yellow centers, can I make pink daisies with white centers?
I would like to do the flowers in many different shades of colors but don't want to do this if it will look bad.
I would think you could do most any color, for instance when I went to the greenhouse to buy plants this year, I bought a purple daisy with yellow center. Really pretty
My wilton instructor told us you can make any colors you what just use your imagination. I even played around with it and made some 2 toned daisy that I thought were beautiful. She said there is no perfect flower in nature and how many times have florist spray painted flower to please there customers. So I say go for it
Unless you're entering a decorating contest where the goal is realistic flowers, what's stopping you from doing whatever you want? In my opinion, when it comes to flowers, if it looks pretty, it's good! lol
I don't think you could find most of the flowers on my cakes in nature--not exactly, anyway.
Have fun!
I agree with Holly. There are no rules when it comes to creativity. So use your imagination and you'll do fine!!

Thanks everyone for your response.
I just didn't want to be an odd ball and do something wrong and have people make negative comments...even through I know one or two will anyway.
Once again, thanks.
I would say that if you are trying to make something "look" realistic, then use the shades that the flower naturally comes, otherwise it may look strange. But if you're not, then just go with the flow!! As long as you're putting your heart into what you do, it will show through, no matter what the colors!
Stephanie~ You do it how you feel moved to do it! Every cake will be different, seems like you already wanted to do different colors so do them! The next cake you can do more realistic flowers. Daisies come in so many colors! If anyone says they don't look like a daisy tell them it's a mum!! LOL!!! Go for it girl!!
