ACan someone tell me how much I should charge for this cake 3 layer homemade chocolate cake with homemade chocolate frosting and chocolate covered strawberries....I need help on pricing s cake like this??
A I got $50.00 for this cake each cake was 3 inches tall, bottom cake is 12 inches around, Top cake is 8 inches around both were white cakes with buttercream frosting and all decorations were editable and made out of fondant. I really only make cakes for family for free , but get people asking me to make cakes for them. People just don't realize how much work goes into cakes and really don't want to pay much for them around here. I actually felt bad taking $ 50.00 for this cake.
ADid you feel bad because you were losing so much money on the cake and wasting so much of your time making a free cake for someone?
ANo I meant I felt bad taking $50.00 from this person, around here I think most people think $ 20.00 is plenty to pay for a cake ! That is why I really don't want to sell cakes : )

$20 is enough to pay for "a cake" but not every cake is the same. The sizes of those tiers would serve about 70 people with a standard serving size, and with the decorations on it I'd charge at least $300 on a day that I'm feeling generous.

your cake is cute as a button and you need to consider doing some research on your pricing formula -- when someone underprices that drastically where you've got 70 servings you're selling for less than ding dongs and ho hos -- what happens is you'll get burnt out doing this -- you'll begin to resent doing it because you're allowing yourself to be taken advantage of at $0.71 a serving --
think of it this way -- if folks want to pay $20 per cake then make them a $20 cake or if folks want $20 cakes find a new crowd to sell to -- don't give away $250 worth of cake for work as sweet as this -- come on you know those zebra striped booties are worth twenty bucks all by their chic selves --
best to you
AThanks, if I could get that kinda money for cake around here, I wouldn't mind doing one or two a week
