Does Anyone Know The Name Of The Lace Mold Used For This Cake?

dukeswalker --that might be a petite cake--maybe
what that made me think of--is a large weighty plastic tablecloth that i used to have that was heavily embossed with all manner of awesome lace patterns and bordered with another --it would have been a perfect mold for cakes of all sizes--just roll the fondant out on that--
yaknow, it might be made with real lace. Using a bc made with at least half butter (so that it will be really firm) press real lace into the side of the WELL-chilled cake to make the impression. Then outline the top edge with bc.
I've seen it done, but not done it myself.
good call, leah--
i've seen it done where she placed the lace on the iced cake then iced the lace and pulled it off--yah gotta find the right kind of lace that will cooperate--
i did a real lace onto a fondant dummy that i sprayed with color and pulled off the lace and it worked to leave the lace pattern--might be kinda tricky on a real cake--
I have one similar to that. I got it at Sugar Delights. Check this http://www.sugardelites.com/Floral-Lace-2-Border-Wide-_p_877.html
Not sure if it's identical, but close.
Thank for the replies -- I am hoping I can find a silicone mold -- as I don't think I have the time or patience to do this from real lace. I'm off to check out sugardelites.
Can't help exactly...but I may be able to prime someone else's memory.
There is a company that has a hard to manuever website. They sell all kinds of molds and they are numbered not named. I think something similar can be found in the section that lists the white plastic type of mold.
I hope someone here knows what I am trying to describe.
it looks kind of like this one I found at http://www.decoratethecake.com/store/WsDefault.asp?One=305

Yes, you have it exactly. It looks like one of the old Frozen Buttercream Transfer methods I saw years ago, where you slather your buttercream into the silicone mold - let it harden - then apply it to the side of the cake.
It was a method from an old 'Sugar Bouquet' Paper catalogs I had ages ago. Very beautiful.
(I could not afford the big silicon molds so never tried what is shown)

Was it Elegant Lace Moulds? I think they are no longer in production :(
Does anyone know what those molds were made out of? I have a few and its kinda a soft foam like material. I have been trying to find what they are made of for a long time :(

don't have a clue other than 'soft foam'. I have a 'rope' mold out of the foam. It works great on fondant. I used it for the border of my polar-bear cake. bought it 15 years ago or more maybe.
the ones that had a kind of weirdy sueded almost fuzzy surface?
they laminated re-cycled flannel pajamas ---

There are a bunch of different types of silicones that were used to make those molds. The sugar bouquets ones MBalaska mentions are really flexible but they're not the same stuff as the flexible silicones that are being used today. I hav a bunch of those molds...Love them but i don't use them too often.
ApplegumPam--you are right. That white foamy mold was made by Elegant Lace Molds..aka Carol Webb at the Cakery. Caljava ( caljavaonline.com ) must have bought her out--but I don't think they are making them any more.. If you go to their website, then in closeout section.., they have a few left, but not this style. They are/were super easy to use, and fast fast fast. I have quite of few of those molds, and use them often.
I uploaded a cake today that used one of their molds.

I ordered a mold from that site once, and it stunk so bad, like some horrible science project. I washed it, soaked it in vinegar, then baking soda, then vinegar again, then bleach. STUNK LIKE HELL STILL. I resorted to molding some MYOM material in it, then used the Release-dit product on it, and made a new mold out of it. It cost $60 for the mold plus shipping, then 3 hours, and $20 more in MYOM.
BTW, when I emailed to company to ask if they were SURE it was food safe, Bum himself told me "Don't worry about it!" O_o
The sugar delites & decorate the cake molds are the same and are also what is used on this cake, IMO. The one at decorate the cake is a penny cheaper. If you look at the second tier you can see the same pattern as the molds. You all probably figured that out already - just my 2 cents.
You were right, rvchevamp, it was the one in the link you posted. I received it on time and used it for the top tier of the cake ball wedding cake I did in December (link to the photo in my profile here: http://cdn001.cakecentral.com/2/2e/900x900px-LL-2e38e163_tier2.jpeg)

Oh, good, glad that helped out. Nice cake, too.
