You're baking, you're not imprisoned! Maybe because I've a large family, I 'm GLAD to have some quiet time. After the cake's done you still have to deliver it, you have to go get ingredients, your kids friends'll be coming over to play, you still have your family around, you've got us here on CC 
, your kids'll have stuff at school/camp/wherever that they'll volunteer you for.....there's lots of opportunity to socialize!
I'm in a new situation these days. My husband just accepted a consulting job (in another state) for about a year. Not the kind of offer you turn down. I thought this will be fine. I could work on all the techniques I want without interruptions or stopping to cook etc. My kids are grown and on their own living in other states - So here I am alone in this house and I find it hard to get motivated. Not use to the quiet and loss of encouragement from him.
I know I'll figure it out but it's just weird right now.

Oh man! I can't imagine. I would seriously be so lonely. Couldn't you go see him, or go with him? How long has he been away? In a similar situation, I see myself doing nothing at all, since I often don't even shower or get dressed until about a half hour before my husband gets off work. Then I run around putting stuff away and wiping the counters and sweeping real quick... "Oh, hello Sweetheart. Home already?" haha

I know he's going to try and come home every three-4 months. He's about an 8 hr drive away and if I did visit, what would I do when I got there - I know him all too well and as a true tech head he will work right through my visit . I don't want to compete with his computer - I will lose.

I think I work best under stress - I'll have to create some - haha.
AHaha Anna that's exactly what I'm like when I am having a lazy day (and why I now take meds to get me off my butt!). My husband will probably end up becoming a consultant and be out of the house M-F which I'm not looking forward to, but I do love having the place to myself. He does help when I'm running late with a cake, on the UNO cake he helped me roll those tiny balls and on the most recent cake I did he cut all the grass out for me, although some of it was not to my standard...I had to sneakily trim the pieces while he wasn't looking!

Ugh, 8 hours is a long drive :-( And I understand about not wanting to compete with his interest... For my first anniversary with my husband, we were sitting at a little restaurant and i was talking and my husband takes his phone out of his pocket, and opens up the pictures and just starts staring. So I snatched it from him and looked at it, and it was a picture of skateboard ramps! Since it wasn't another woman, I didn't let it ruin our night, but I did have hurt feelings. :-)
I always say panic is a great motivator. We had a party on Sunday and knew for 3 days, and did nothing around the house, so Sunday morning we get up and I start everyone in on a chore... We were running around cleaning half the day and threw ourselves into the shower and were all done about 1 hour before family started arriving ;-)
I am just as bad with my cakes. I wait until the last minute, work all night and get it done as the client is pulling up the drive. I envy the people who get done by 5 the previous day. I swear, I just don't have it in me.
Oh, and highschool and college, I would have 6 weeks to do a project or paper, and would wait until the last day or two to start it, work all night.... I still got a's and b's on them, drawing up my average to a good solid C, since I didn't do my homework, either...

"Look at mine Sweetheart, and then look at yours...See this jagged bit here? I really need it to be smooth, like mine. Here, let me show you." And then I do the rest of them while he sips his coffee... Doh! Not much help at all...

Im exactly the same. I always say im going to plan ahead and get organised but it never happens. I have this mickey mouse cake to make for tomorrow, only made the 2 cakes. I have to sculpt one of them and do all the decorating. Then i have a peppa pig for the day after that i havent even started! Now its lunch time and im sat on the computer writing this.
Going to my kitchen now. rush, rush, rush. UP ALL NIGHT!

I have a dessert cake due in the morning, and 66 highly decorated cupcakes and a 2 tier due Saturday. I haven't even baked yet! I have mental problems. I am sitting in my PJ's with my 4 year old cuddling me, watching a movie. It is lunch time and I haven't even eaten yet today, I fact, I just woke up an hour ago.....
I hated retail, but always take it in stride when a customer changes an order, up to about 3 days before for smaller less detailed cakes, and 2 weeks before, for larger, or more detailed. Depending on whether I want to do the change or not!
Not always fun but I happen to have a district and regional managers that liked my ideas I was given a lot of freedom. It came in handy today. Needed to make a design change from a sketch I provided so the cake would be more balanced. After several emails and texts, I ended up having to meet with her again cause she couldn't understand where I was going even though I sent a new drawing. The meet took all of 5 min. to get approval. I think she just needed reassurance the cake was going to be better with the new design. - I walked away very pleased with myself - giggle
