AI have not seen the 8 qt commercial ones this cheap anywhere else and I have been looking for a while....that's why I jumped on it!
Check at Estate sales,Graigs list ect. I bought one for $225.00 never used in Red the lady said she didn't like the color??? I already had one so I gave it to my daughter.
Did I mention I could tell she had the money to be that picky :) I bought mine from a dept.store going out of business.Keep your eyes open.
Thank you MaisondeLeveque for alerting me to the sale! I have been looking at the few places that carry the 8 and have also not seen it anywhere near that "cheap." Ordered mine on Saturday and can't wait for it to arrive!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
ACserwa. Glad I could help! Mine is due here tomorrow! I am so glad to get it right before the holiday rush!!!
AH! So exciting!!! Mine hasn't left the shop yet, but I'm hoping soon! It only took about a week for you to receive it after you placed your order?
I've been following this thread. Got an email on the WEBstaurant Black Friday Sale. The 8 qt Kitchenaid is on sale for $498.99 with free shipping and no tax. I'd been contemplating the 7 qt refurbished version sold at the Kitchenaid Outlet, which would have been $388. But for only $100 more, I decided to get my wife the new, fully warranted 8 qt instead. Thanks for all your input on this decision.
I wanted to update my Kitchenaid refurbished experience. KA sent me an entire new mixer, with another 6 month warrantly, to replace mine since the hub cover wouldn't stay on. What great customer service!!!
I also love the Webstaurant store, though, so I don't think you would go wrong either way. We get a lot of our restaurant equipment there.

webstaurantstore.com has a Black Friday special on the 8 qt. 498.99 and free shipping today 11/29/13 only. Just ordered mine.
Haven't thought of using an 8 quart, my 6 quart is huge, and doesn't fit under a normal cupboard set, had a special cupboard built for it. It uses up to 14 cups of flour...plus liquid, got it free under airmiles...
AGot mine for 498.99 from web restrnt, you have to use the coupon blkfrideal to get it for that price and its today only
Thanks ladies! I've been following this thread for awhile now and just made the plunge! The black friday coupon still works today and I just got the 8qt for $498. Crazy!!
I have one in pewter. The bowl is 1 qt larger than the 7 qt, obviously, but it DOES use the same mixer blade, dough hook, etc. It is VERY quiet, much quieter than my KA professional 6 qt. Blades and parts are very heavy so I'm assuming it will last a long long time. Bowl is very HIGH up, so you can't use a splash guard. Any other questions?

Yes, the specs on these mixers are identical except the bowl size. You can also just buy an 8 qt. bowl for your 7 qt. mixer.

I just realized that you are right, you can buy an 8 qt bowl for a 7 qt mixer, so why not buy the 7 qt mixer, which is probably cheaper, and get an extra 8 qt bowl? Wish I had known that. I just got mine today and I'm making bread.
One issue I have is bowl clearance. I remember it used to be on previous KA mixers that the beater should just move a dime placed in the bottom of the bowl a fraction of an inch each time it comes around. That was supposedly the desired clearance setting. I did that and when the mixer was mixing, it was banging, so I had to lower the bowl. I am not sure, but I believe this 8 qt bowl has a larger hump in the bottom and so needs more clearance. Does anyone know?
You young strong pups don't need to read this one.
I used my new 7 qt. KA today and braved a double batch of cheesecake. (With my 5 qt. mixer I just make one at a time.) This was the first time I used the 7 qt. for cheesecake. The bowl was heavy heavy heavy with all that sugar, cream cheese & eggs. Nearly 10 lbs.
now I didn't think much about it, but I'm not going to get younger, stronger, or smarter. So to the persons of an experienced nature (in life years) you may consider that the larger 8 quart mixer is a dream, but that it will be heavy with batter or dough. just thought I'd share that aspect of the larger KA.
on the plus side, It is really nice to have the slow smooth start, the really quiet motor, the super duper wire whip, and the big bowl. ** I'd not go any bigger though.
Hi
How is it working for you now? I have the 7 Qt and love it. I'm living in Sicily for 2 years and will move back to the states in 1 1/2 years and will need another one as we will sell this rather than shipping it because of it's heavy weight. They are a premium over here to so already have it sold when I leave. I'm just debating if I want another 7 qt or the 8 qt. What are the things you really love about it? Have you found out if it takes 16 cups of flour yet?
Thanks, Sherri
I just checked their website and the 8qrt is $545. They also have the 8qrt with the metal guard for about $30 more. No coupon code needed. It is tempting but my 6qrt is fine for me right now, although it would be nice to do bigger batches.
My 5.5 quart just went out. The motor runs but the attachments don't move. The repair store told me to have it fixed for about $100, because of the durability of the older models. I use mine primarily for making butter-creme frosting and it has always sounded like it's straining with the thickness of the frosting. I will upgrade to the 8 quart as soon as the funds come in. Does anyone know if their are any sales coming up soon. I've been checking eBay and the WebstaurantStore. If I go with WebstaurantStore I will definitely get an extra bowl and cover which I can't find on eBay.
Sale at www.webstraurantstore.com - 35% off. Sale price shows at checkout. $549.99 for a limited time. It's even available in my favorite color - Red!
mbalaska -- a note here to your dec '13 post about the weight of your ka -- i used to toss around (hahaha) 30/40/60 qt mixer bowls -- but i really did -- 40 years ago --
but what you probably already figured out is you wanna think about tilting the bowl not lifting it like a home mixer bowl -- for the big bad boys i had the rollers you can lower the bowls onto and then tilt the bowl and the contents will pour out -- otherwise you can get some container under it and just spill the contents out -- 'container' whether it's a baking pan or a measuring cup or a five gallon bucket
i'm sure you've already figured this out-- i mean i'm actually using an electric hand mixer and wanting an egg beater too for just my little quantities i make these days -- and i hadn't used a hand mixer in decades -- anyhow just a thought
