I Have Never Been So Glad To Be Done With A Cake...

I'm having my brother's 18th birthday party at my house tomorrow, and of course I decided that he had to have a really cool cake ![]()
He LOVES his xbox so I thought that would be perfect! I looked through this site and managed to get plenty of inspiration from others. I do not own an xbox so I had to go from what I could find online. I knew it would be time and labor intensive, but boy oh boy am I glad to finally be done.
The cake is chocolate sour cream cake from scratch brushed with amaretto syrup, bittersweet chocolate buttercream and Pettinice dark chocolate fondant (he also loves chocolate
)
Now I just have to clean the kitchen
and the rest of the house for tomorrow, since I've spent the last two days on this cake! ![]()
Um...WOW!!! That is one awesome X-Box! I am working on one right now, at this very moment. My fingernails look like a mechanic's from the balck colouring! lol!
You did an amazing job! Your brother will be VERY impressed! What did you make the disc out of? The whole thing sounds yummy too!
Oh my goodness slap me silly!!!! That is such a realistic cake!! I can't get over how absolutely PERFECT it is....right down to the CD and the writing on the CD...PERFECT!!!!!!!!! It only took you 2 days??? That would've taken me 2 weeks to get looking that good!! lol
Wow, wow, wow!!
To me the cakes that replicate actual things, like this Xbox, have got to be the hardest to do. You should enter that into some contest somewhere or something! Did I say I was impressed??!! lol
Great job ![]()
Thanks everybody (especially you, tripletmom, since your cake was the major inspiration for mine!)
I'm actually not very happy with it... all I can think when I make a cake these days is: 'it could have been better'. I guess it's good to always strive to improve!
The CD is made out of white chocolate and painted with silver luster dust. The writing (the gold on the CD and the silver on the cake) is luster dust mixed with about 1/2 tsp of piping gel, piped with an itty bitty tiny parchment cone (yes, really.)
Oh My Gosh that is amazing.. You did a spectacular job, it looks so realistic. I am soooooo impressed.. I agree with JennT you should really enter it in a contest. You'd win hands down.. Your brother is going to be so impressed.. ![]()

Thanks edencakes but yours is by far the best X-Box cake I have ever seen! You really did do a phenomenal job on it. You are being too hard on yourself, something we all tend to do. You are very talented!
I'm still shaking my head at how realistic it is!
Well, I was wondering why you took a picture of the real thing, until I read your notes and realized it was a cake. That is how impressed I was, I thought it was real. Amazing girl! I think that maybe you inhaled too much vanilla in the cake making process, if you are not pleased with this kiddo, what is not to be pleased with, I ask you!

Steph,
WHAT AN EXCELLENT JOB!!! ![]()
You should be VERY proud of that cake! I know I would be. I am like you though, I look at my cakes so much that I get tired of the way they look and start picking them to death thinking "I coulda done this, or I shoulda done that". I think we all do that. But be VERY proud of this and smile really big!!! Cause you did GRRRRREAT!!!
Leslie

Pleeease give us the whole scoop tomorrow about your brother's reaction when he sees his cake.. Don't leave out anything! I want to live vicariously through that moment!
Unbelievable and so amazing it truely does look like the real thing. I would be so proud of myself had I done that!!!
You are deifinitely being too hard on yourself, IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! And it only took 2 days???, WOW!!, that would probably take me at least a week to do!
Wow...now that's some cake, I am totally speechless. ![]()

Your brother is trully a very fortunate young man to receive this huge gift made from such talented hands.
Sending you a well deserved standing ovation.
That looks AWESOME! So realistic. I'm going to be doing an Xbox cake this week too but no fondant, all in BC. I've been dreading making all that black!! Hope it looks half as good as yours!!!
I was wanting to make an Xbox cake for my BIL but instead his wife wanted a truck cake for him.
OMGoodness!!! You did an awesome job! I'm going to save this beauty in my favs. It was well worth the intensive labor you put into it!
I do want to know however is how in the world you got the fondant soooooooo black! You had to have kneaded FOREVER to get it that dark!!! ![]()
