how much/how many cake mix(es) do i use to make a 12x12 cake?

12 by 12 square?  How high?  Use this chart...http://www.wilton.com/cakes/making-cakes/baking-wedding-cake-2-inch-pans.cfm   It has a column that shows how much batter is needed for various cakes.

A double WASC recipe gets me 1 - 12x12 and 1-8"....so if you use WASC...you will need 4 batches...you will have enough extra batter . for 2--8"...or you can make 1-qtr sheet instead.   I do so many different sizes, I try to write down every combination I've done.

I agree w/ddagile.  Use the *original* WASC recipe and make it twice.  If you don't want to make the 8"ers, make cupcakes - you should get about a dozen.
