OK , Costco no longer has the cream cheese on sale right now and the cheapest I can get it is 3.29 for 250 g ( that's about *8 oz).  For the future could I freeze blocks of cream cheese and then defrost and use to make cream cheese icing?   It's so expensive to make frosting with it if I am paying full price.  Has anyone done this and for how long?  Thanks.

Cr Ch does not freeze well.  You say that size available is like 8 oz.....I would use all or almost all of it in my icing.  Any leftover will keep in frig approx 10 days for family use.

Or simply make a larger batch of icing, which can be fzn :)

It's funny you posted this because I just read an article about freezing cream cheese today! :)

I had an extra 8oz package of cream cheese that I froze for 2 months (I couldn't bear to waste it)- I used it later for cream cheese icing -and it was fine. The cream cheese and the icing was just as tasty as if it was not frozen.
