Hi Ninja 13. Welcome. We have been pretty quiet on this thread lately. Maybe we can get it going again. I can't really help you with your question as I bought a bucket of satin ice last year and got a free bucket at the same time, and because I am a hobby baker it will take me a while to use it all. Maybe one of the others will see and chirp in. Where abouts in Qland are you?

Hi Bluehue,
Thanks :) is this the right place to ask what is 2014 good price for fondant? brought or made? (in aus of course)
Ninja13
Hello again
I get my Fondant at wholesale prices....might you have an ABN?
Over here in Perth i can get a 7kilo bucket of Bakels for 49.00 - 51.00
It went up in price not so long ago.
Blue :)
Hi again Bluehue :)
Yes i have an ABN how do you get it at wholesale price?
I can't get anything local other then 1kg for about $20 from spotlight, woolworths and coles.
Except there is a cake shop called "cakes of distinction" that sells it for $72 for 7kg
Looked online but with postage was more then the local cake shop.
Also prices for making it? not sure thats worth it either especially when you count your time to make it.
Thanks again Ninja13

Hello again....
Ninja, Google Wholesale catering supplies...there must be something near you where restaurants/cafes/ order their goods from.
If there isn't anything too near to you - you could ask a local restaurant/cafe who they order from - and could you place an order with them for when they do their wholesale ordering...
I know Bake Boss do wholesale and ship all over Australia...
Its difficult i know when you live *remote* its the price we pay for living so far away from the big cities..... :/
Blue :)
Ninja google cakes around town as well. Even with the surcharge for posting a heavy item the large buckets of fondant are going to be cheaper than spotlight, if you can't organise it any cheaper elsewhere.
Lovely spot Yepoon. I came and worked on the Breastscreen bus, for all of 2 weeks, about 6 years ago when they were desperate. Stayed at a lovely unit on the beach, went out to the islands on one of my weekend days and then to the local embroidery group on my other weekend day. After the group a lovely lady took me on a tour of the town, resort etc.
Just back from wiring all the bracts to their flowers on my bougainvillia. I must be the world worst wirer. And I never seem to improve. Ant hints gladly accepted. Bougainvillia have almost ethereal stems from the bracts to the main branch but mine are all big chunky things. Hopefully you won't be able to see them too much.
My daughter came along whilst I was wiring and told me I should study instead of wasting my time doing THAT. When I asked her why I would want to do that she said "because you would be the smartest person in the world" My reply was "But where would the fun be in that?" I'm still trying to work out if it was a huge compliment or a back hander about spending too much time cake decorating. I suspect it was a bit of both.

I am hoping it was the later also for you cazza :)
There are many slow wirers out there - Blue throws her hand up in the air lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
@ Nadiaa - are you able to source a Wholesaler so as to get it cheaper with an ABN?
Thought we were in for a rather foggy night tonight - until i realized it was smoke hanging in the air from a big burn off up in the hills - ![]()
Best go heat the plates - the Husband has gone to get Japanese for dinner ![]()

Hahahaha, now there's a thought!!! Except she's just started her own cake business....not sure she'd want to be helping me, lol!!!
Lollll - yes, think it might be pushing the caking boundaries a bit also ;)
Last year i had to travel from Perth to Country Victoria - for a wedding - i had about 354687251 kilos of stuff to take over - so i phoned 2 cakers in the town where i was going to and asked if maybe they could sell me some fondant - i was prepared to pay full price - as i needed about 10 kilos.....
one said NOPE
and the other said - what???
Fully understand their way of thinking - i was coming over to do a huge wedding that *maybe* they might have been commissioned for - - but considering it was my way of saying *thank you* to a family who had helped my family in a time of need - the option of the bride and groom seeking another caker wasn't really up for grabs.
I remember a caker coming to Perth to do the exact same thing and she contacted me as she realized that she had left some things behind in Sydney - i was more than happy to help her out because at the end of the day - it wasn't about the *caker* but the people getting married...
Time to go get sorted for a consult this afternoon......
Anyhooooooooo - hopefully you can find some fondant near where you live.....
Bluev :)
Pretty poor attitude on their behalf, really Blue. Sorry they refused to help. If the cake was a business deal then the caker would not be travelling to that state to decorate it so it is pretty obvious that it was a friend or family, as far as I am concerned. Having said that there were probably heaps that would have helped out if they had known.

I have traveled interstate to do wedding cakes - after people seeing/hearing of my work - but on this occasion due to my families circumstances i had to fly out earlier than anticipated...thus not getting every thing made for the cake and cupcakes.... ![]()
We are a funny lot us humans lolll
Are you blanketed in cloud up where you are - we haven't seen the sun in 2 days due to the cloud cover....

Yeah I wouldn't have a problem helping someone out who was visiting my town, and already had an order to do, but I see how the line is drawn for most cakers at helping out someone who may be competition one day! I can still buy fondant, just have to pay the normal retail prices :) At least I'm only hobby baking, so I don't go through massive amounts, I do a lot in BC too. Thanks Blue!

Yeah, it looks like it is trying very hard to rain but failing dismally. Hey pretty neat getting to travel interstate to do cakes. Are you arranging one in Q'land for next August so that they pay for the fare to the conference ![]()
Yes, i have been fortunate to do 4 cakes interstate...
Qantas is excellent about keeping my creations safe during the flights..... Perfect lockers up the back of the plane that the air hostesses and stewards use - my cake couriers fit in them as snug as a bug in a rug.... ![]()
No - no orders in Qld for August next year... I will be up to my eyeballs making 35496875168754 flowers and prepping for son#2 wedding in October... plus entertaining family from OS who will be staying with us -
Think i might need a holiday in Qld after all the visitors go home and the wedding is over lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
We got some very light rain last night - great for the gardens....
Still blanketed with cloud again today
me-me1 - welcome to CC..... i see you are another Perithian :)

Hi me-me!! Just so you all know, I'm actually a Perth girl from way back, but moved up here for some crazy reason! Lol! Amazing weather right now though, it's all blue skies, sunshine and cool breezes
Nadiaa - i lived in Darwin for about 3 years a long time ago - LOVED THE PLACE
Darwin was much smaller then - a time when houses were built of wood and got blown away in a cyclone lolll
I have been back a couple of times and always sad when it time to board the plane to come back to Perth.
Surprise surprise - the sun is out now - first time we have seen it in four days lolll
But no blue sky
Blue
ADarwin is a special place, it's a lifestyle that I would miss if we ever left. But I miss having four seasons and miss the beaches that aren't infested with crocodiles/jellyfish/stonefish. I miss the cheaper grocery prices too. There's lots to love about Darwin but lots I could happily walk away from. Lol!!! And the humidity makes caking so frustrating!!!!
I don't think that I would want to be trying to cake in Darwin. I would need a good air conditioner and dehumidifier. I have worked in Darwin a couple of times for 6 weeks during the wet season and the only contact I think you should have with cake during this time is with your mouth.
ONLY IN AUSTRALIA and then I had to read about it in a British Paper

A 22-year-old man in Australia has been arrested for drunk driving after he was caught riding a motorised drink cooler in the middle of a suburban street.
Police spotted the man riding a motorised cooler – known in Australia as an esky – on a road in Perth about 8pm on Friday night. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Police said the vehicle was potentially dangerous and that the cooler contained alcohol.
"This motor vehicle would only be able to travel at very low speeds, the lighting devices on said vehicle would be negligible and make it very difficult for other motorists to see," police said in a statement.
The man was not the first Australian to be caught on a so-called “esky-pade”
In March, a drunken 38-year-old man was charged with drink driving after he was caught on a motorised cooler filled with beer, cask wine and bourbon pre-mix drinks on a bike path.
In August 2011, a drunken 23-year-old man was fined and disqualified from driving for nine months for taking his "extreme cooler" for a "test drive" on a main road in Queensland.
He said it was "for a bit of a giggle".
So not surprised it's been done a few times!!
What's everyone working on this week? I've just been experimenting with some strawberry fudge for a wedding consult this coming weekend. The bride wants a full dessert buffet plus a cake and is after lots of fudgey sorts of things. Also messing around with my brownie fudge recipe this week for her.

LOL, this is so true! Except 2 of my kids birthdays are in the Wet...makes for fun baking. Not. I refrigerate all my cakes though, it's necessary up here, otherwise your fillings would melt in a flash.
This week I'm baking mini hamburger cupcakes for the cake stall for sports day at my kids school. I'm debating whether to make sugar cookie chips to go with them, but I think I'll be regretting that decision once I start. They'd have to be mini cookies too.....
And I'm baking a birthday cake for my best friend who's coming to visit from Perth this weekend :) White chocolate mud cake with caramel SMBC filling. I'm covering it in pink ombre fondant ruffles and attempting a pink peony for the top. Wish me luck!
