I didn't see a Price the Cake thread for today, so here we go :)
*This is not my cake*
I came across a blog yesterday where a young lady said she had found someone to do this cake for her for $350. I couldn't believe it. Anyway, assuming the tiers are 14, 12, 10, 8 (X2), and 6 in, this would be about 178 servings (per Earlene's serving chart). Here in Central Texas, I would charge $6 per serving for a cake like this (plus extra due to the bling and flowers). I would feel comfortable charging $1200 for this cake. Keep in mind, I actually charge more than most of the bakeries/bakers around here. :) What is your price for this cake?>>

In the program that I have made for myself I would charge $1,165.00 .. I am no where near doing something like that yet but that is what my spreadsheet is telling me...Who ever is doing that for $350 is crazy... I am in Ontario Canada by the way

For me this would be 230 1x2 inch servings, and with just basic flavors and buttercream filling I would charge $1035.00. I'm in Upstate NY.

This cake is beautiful!!! Whoever is doing this cake for $350- I am certain it will not look or be anything quite close to this cake. I would love to see what they actually come up with for $350..but for sure, it will not be this cake! People are really crazy!

That's what I was thinking. ;) The amount of work that goes into a cake like this is worth, at the very least $1,000, in my opinion.

AI agree with cakefat! That $350 cake is going to be a hot mess! In northern ky, I would charge $4 a serving, 230 servings, and add on for the flowers, and hourglass tier, to make it an even $1000.

here is the link to the blog I was reading >>> http://www.weddingbycolor.com/royallyurs612/milestones/182556
Actually, she stated $340, not $350. Judging from the info on her profile, the wedding has come and gone, but interestingly enough, I could not find a pic of this $340 cake. I was dying to see how it came out!

I admit , I scanned her blog too to see if I could find a pic of this $340.00 cake.
I would LOVE to see how that came out.

AAnybody a member of that website? I clicked the contact button and only members can contact members. I seriously want to see how it turned out.

Ah, I love google A quick search of the bride and groom's names (Thankfully, they have uncommon names) along with their photographer (LA Photography) turned up this:
See more here>>>

I love Google.
That's....um....quite a cake.

I'd say that's a very loose interpretation of the original.

I should have kept reading down. I have been wandering around the initial site trying to find wedding pictures to see the final cake. Way to go Lady for finding it. At least they got the colors right. That seems to be about it though. If it sounds too good to be true.......

See..there you go. Not one thing at all like the original photo. I'm not dissing her cake at all...it's just insane when people make claims like that- copying that cake for only $340. Those two cakes only have one thing in common- they're made from cake. That is about it.
That's like comparing a BMW 7 series with a Honda Civic (entry model)....nothing wrong at all with the Civic but you just can't compare it to the first car.
Ps- great google detective work there! :)

Why don't you join Anna? :D I wanna see a picture of that $340 cake, lol!
I just have to say, I love the "fix" of putting a band of fondant around the cake, to hide whatever mess there was at the bottom. Oh, and ,"Holy Ponderous folds of fondant, Batman!"

AAnd is that Disco Dust on the black tier? Lmao!

Not dissing the cake but holy heck, I had to change my glasses to check I was seeing correct. Yep, I do believe there is some disco action happening there.
I sincerely HOPE the bride and groom were happy with it.
My niece had 2 separate friends volunteer to do a tier each for her wedding cake. One was magnificent and the other.....beyond words. I had flown in from interstate and kept looking at the cake wondering a) what had gone wrong with one tier, b) if to call an ambulance for it. Thank goodness I kept my thoughts to myself. Kudos to my niece, she kept smiling, no-one knew her diappointment.

Now, why can't I edit? The button is gone in both my laptop and my iphone. I wanted to be a little more CCC (Cake Central Correct) and edit before someone edited for me, and I can't!!

Well, there it is on the last one...Does it "time out'? I have never had it do that before....Curious....It should NEVER time out like that.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha *wipes tears*
I would price that at around £1200, so $1880. Sound a lot in dollars, but I think it's more like for like, something they sell here for £9.99 you can buy in the US for $9.99

Thank you for digging up that cake. Curiosity was killing me last night.
I was told if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all so ...
Well, it meets my expectations of a $340.00 version of that cake.
