I want to make a cake where one tier is a silver metallic color. I will be using buttercream, but I don't know how to create the look. The only way I know would be to use a spray silver spray, but that gives the frosting an "off" taste. Any ideas?
I have done silver tiers, with edible silver leaf , i did it on fondant though.
It's going to be near impossible to get metallic silver b'cream icing. You could paint it using silver dust mixed w/vodka BUT...it's NOT edible
Anytime gold or silver is used on a cake it should be on something that can be removed from the cake and not served. Yes, they are non-toxic but they are a heavy metal that over time will build up in one's organs and really be a problem for anyone who has health problems to begin with ![]()
It is very expensive to buy edible silver leaf and hard to use.
Do you have an airbrush? Lucks' silver shimmer spray looks decent on buttercream and you don't need to use a ton. Also 100% edible. But you need an airbrush.
I do have an airbrush, not really comfortable with it yet, but I might give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion!
