My Aunt Sharon is having a birthday party and wants me to make a chocolate cake with a buttercream frosting and filling. She wants is gold and wants to cut into the cake and see pure gold. Her words not mine, lol. and I have no idea how to do that. Should I u see food coloring? Pearl dust, the spray? HELP!! ![]()
Pure gold, hmm did she say like 18 karrot gold haha im kidding
well at my cake store they sell that color mist spray like your talking about ive never seen the gold at michaels or hobby lobby only at the the cake store that i go to. Oh i may have found the answer for you, on page 157 of this years wilton catalog there is gold pearlized suger maybe order one or two bottles of that and mix it with piping gel and put that as the filling of the cake. Let me know what you think about this idea. HTH
I just read your post again and see that you want gold buttercream frosting for the filling. I would try a couple different things , put a small amount of white buttercream in a bowl mix it with the gold sugar that i already told you to buy, if that works that great make enough of that to make filling for the cake. If that doesnt work than i would try a different small bowl of white bitter cream and add ivory cloring to it than the gold sugar mixing it very well. I just tried this with white buttercream and light yellow sugar because thats the color that i happen ti have , some of the color came off turning the buttercream yellow i would think that if you bought the gold sugar that some of the color would come off in the buttercream making it look even more gold than what i was thing well let me know how this turns out. You know, there are just some things that cannot be done with food! You might be able to come close w/a yellow as has been suggested but I doubt it is going to look like 'pure gold'! ![]()
Maybe you could get her to buy some gold sheets and cover the filling w/that. I did something similar some 20 yrs ago for a wedding cake only the gold was covering fondant on the outside of the cake - not the filling.

with a small amount of buttrtcream frosting, ( one cup), add yellow gel color, a bit of red, and a drop of green, you should get a gold color, by adding more red, or green you can go from a new bright gold color, to an old gold color. Once you get the color you want you can add it to the amount of frosting you need for the filling, you will need to add more gel color, but you should now know how many drops of red and green you used on one cup, and use the same ratio on the larger amount.
thank you all!
I will try sides this weekend n post next week with results n maybe a picture.

CK sells gold food coloring. Now, you may not get the metallic look she may be wanting, but you could certainly give it a try.
