Stenciling Icing?

Hi I am making a buttercream cake & i was planning on using royal icing to stencil the damask decor on to it, will that work? also is buttercream with buttercream stencil icing ok? thanks

I would not stencil with royal icing onto buttercream as the fats in the BC would break down the royal and you could end up with a mess on your hands. I have stenciled BC onto BC without a problem, just make sure your icing is well crusted before you do.

Best not to use RI. One can definately use BC on BC. Just thin it a bit so it goes on smoother. I suggest thinning with piping gel or something like clear Karo syrup.

It is best to use BC on BC to stencil on your cake. RI works best on fondant cakes. Here are two wedding cakes I stenciled in BC. HTH
