Was very happy to see that, they're going to do very well with that. Talk about an "in demand" style, and now you can see exactly how it's done without guessing!

@jdelectables what a nice website, thanks for sharing the tutorial information.

It was also interesting that they featured two recipes for making SMBC, one like Gretchen Price of Woodland bakery and one like @FromScratchSF has on her blog.

bought it, watched it, loved it.  She explains it exactly...just as you say.  Fingers crossed for me as seeing something does not always translate or morph into my fingers doing the same work.

I don't know - $45 to learn how to make one signature flower?? I was pretty shocked when I clicked on the link and saw the price - I was thinking more like $15 or so. I can get lessons from craftsy that deal with a huge amount of material for half that price.

And is that flower so hard to make that I need a $45 video?? I would think it would make more sense to buy the kit and figure it out. I really don't think I would spend that much on a video of one flower.

Maybe I'm cheap, but I don't think so. I find the money I spent on almost every crafty video was well worth it.

I agree…and I buy and have almost every video tutorial out there. I found the same kind of flowers at mycakeschool, on their "how to pipe large frosting flowers" tutorial and I just paid $30 for a whole year of videos.

I made these using the 403 tip and SMBC...no video tutorial...I was shocked by the price of it at well...with more practice they will be perfected, but not bad for just figuring it out And this with rich's bettercreme

Used the instructions in the White Flower Cake Shoppe video to make these:

http://www.cakecentral.com/g/i/3293829/a/3436443/smbc-on-standard-cupcakes/sort/display_order/

The instructor is right that the big 'C' tip really needs a jumbo cupcake as the petals are so large.

what the video taught me, was how to make those huge petals stand UP.  That's what was eluding me.  This was with the largest #403 tip. ^^^

MBalaska - have you tried it with a 402 tip? Just wondering if that would work on an average size cupcake. You did a great job on yours. I guess like anything else, it will just take practice. I don't own the video but I do have the 402 and 403 tips that I plan to play around with.

@chaka1  You're right.  It would work on a standard.  It didn't even cross my mind.to try it.

funny now, I just made those cupcakes for myself so I could try out the technique.  So I put a little cocoa powder in a bit of icing to make centers, rather than putting yellow or green food coloring in there.  And I made the centers too tall so they kind of swayed together and it looks like little tiny sets of praying hands coming out of each flower. :???:  they're praying that I'll learn how to decorate better. lol

proper piping takes time and practice however I could never get them to stand up until I bought the dvd.

This is going to take lots of practice for me, and I love buttercream.  As a shortcut I used some carton egg whites, and they just don't whip up and give as much loft - lift - strength to the petals.  I'll crack eggs next time I try these:

jumbo cupcakes, wilton #402 "C" ruffle tip, SMBC

Thanks @chaka1  Yes you're correct those are the #402 smaller tip petals on jumbo cupcakes.

todays experiment was using the Wilton tip #403 on the jumbo cupcakes.  and adding the leaves.  I don't care for the leaf addition on the cupcake.

thank you @Krypto.  those ruffle tip petals are some of the most difficult buttercream piping techniques that I've done,  it doesn't make sense, but there it is.

I'm rather wondering if the slight dome of the cupcakes, which make the petals go down hill and fight their way to get up, makes a difference??

Now I'm going to have to try it out on a flat cake top....later on.  I need to get back to the gumpaste wired leaves.
