Hi Room,

I have been asked to do a communion cake and she wants silver on white. Little hearts and lettering. What can I use to colour the icing silver? For models I use a lustre dust mixed with alcohol and paint it on but these are tiny hearts and also the letters how would be best to do this?

Many thanks

Are you going to be piping them or using cutters with fondant/gumpaste?

You could color the fondant before cutting out the little hearts, but the piping you'll have to paint afterwards. Not much help, I'm afraid.

For the little hearts, I would rub just a dab of black into the paste then cut them out. After, take nusilver and brush it on dry. But for the lettering, you'll need to do them in royal, then wait till they dry and paint it with alcohol and nusilver.

Airbrushing? If you airbrush a sheet of gumpaste then cut out what you need you can attach the cut-outs with a dab of icing when they're dry.Using the CLIKSTIX would give you nice, uniform lettering.
