What about using thick/stiff RI put through a extruder (with the attachment that makes hair) onto wax paper and let dry. Spray with silver/gold when dry?

Just an idea....

Use spun sugar. It will be delicate and lovely. If you have isomalt that will of course work. Search youtube for spun sugar. There are tons of simple tutorials.

Would gelatin work or would that be too brittle? It seems to really sparkle in gelatin flowers.

Thanks for the ideas! The spun sugar was the look I was going for. Never tried using it before- very messy, but fun! Here's the results:

That really came out pretty! Did you use a mold for the bulbs? I've never used isomalt - a little intimidated by it! Love the tree!

Thanks! Yes, I used a mold. Isomalt is just like using any sugar at high temps - you have to be careful. But it's fairly straight forward. I still get bubbles in mine, though...Here's a link I use with recipe and directions (just scroll down to the bottom right). Have fun!
