You can't go wrong with polka dots. Here's a cake that is simple but beautiful. The colors are equally masculine and feminine. You can do a flower on the side for her and do circles on wires in the colors and put both there names on the top and Happy birthday on the board.

Another possibility is to make 2 seperate cakes - using one layer each, put side-by-side.

Here is one I did for a friend's joint husband and wife 30th birthday party. All the guest were to wear back and/or white and they wore red. It was kind of a vintage theme. Sorry for the bad pic, all I had was my phone at delivery ![]()
