Hi all,

My daughter is requesting a Strawberry Shortcake themed birthday cake for her her 3rd birthday party. That's all well and good, except she is also requesting that the cake itself be a strawberry shortcake. The party is on October 23rd.

I'm a novice at best, and I've never attempted a strawberry shortcake. What kind of frosting would I use? A cream based one, like with whipping cream? I can't imagine that frosting it with buttercream would make sense. Can this type of cake be covered in fondant and then refrigerated? I've never refrigerated a fondant-covered cake before. I see so many cute Strawberry Shortcake themed cakes on here that are covered with fondant.

Good recipes are also welcome!

Please help! I've always made pretty ordinary flavors that could be made in advance (vanilla, chocolate, pound, pumpkin etc.). Thanks!
