I have some Sweetex in a big box. I still have quite a bit left. Problem is it is over three yrs. old. It is in bottom of pantry. It is bright white and smells fine. Could I still use it? Last minute cake.

I hate to waste any kind of food, but I wouldn't use 3 year old food products.

According to crisco.com (I know not the same thing as sweetex) an opened can of shortening can be stored up to one year in a cool dry place.

Your box should have a "use by" date. I know the wholesaler that I buy my products from clearly states that Sweetex has a 1 yr shelf life.

Unless you froze it, throw it out.
