Please bare with me. I have searched, searched, and searched! I'm trying to find a way to make a realistic purple edible feather for a Red Hat Society "Hat Cake" I have not found anything. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have this image in my head of what I want it to look like but I can not seem to make it happen. Please help!

Thank-you for your post Panel.
I did try the suggestions but I didn't quite get what I had in my mind for this project. So...... I made the feather out of gelatin and just used a paintbrush and created a feather on a ziplock bag. When it dried it just popped off and I inserted the toothpick into the cake. worked GREAT!

The Red Hat ladies were amazed that it was an actual cake, one was tapping on the side of the cake trying to determine if it was a glass or plastic decoration. Too funny!

Steppy, it turned out great! Must try your technique - I always wanted to make gelatine peacock feather.
