I have to make a bale of hay cake for Friday and I'm wondering how to get the buttercream to look like the texture of hay. Can anyone help me out?

My first thought is the blood, sweat, and tears method. Good ol tip 233.

Are you talking about the icing tips or is there a tip somewhere on here that is tip 233?

LOL sorry the icing tip. The grass tip is 233.

Annie is right - the tip #233 aka the grass tip. It pipes 5(?) strings of icing at once. Stick 2 marshmellows together w/icing; spear it on a fork or toothpick, then cover w/yellowish/tan icing from that tip.

I made this one recently using 4 different shades of gold/tan-ish bc. I used a combination of tips 233 and small rounds and small stars to get a variegated texture. FYI...it took me 7 hours to do the piping so allow yourself plenty of time!

Elcee, that is definitely a blood, sweat, and tears cake! I'm sure you had to take lots of Advil after that!

LOL Annie, it was huge! At about hour 4 I took a breather and posted on facebook that "no matter how much I love you, I will never make you a bale of hay cake"! icon_razz.gif
