I have been sent the following picture and first of all don't know HOW i am going to do it. The little boy wants it standing up and 3-d. But MOSTLY, I am concerned with how much I should charge for it.

I am not quite sure what it is supposed to be, I think it is something from his imagination. I originally quoted the mom $50 but that was for a flat godzilla cake. He changed his mind and now wants this. This is going to be much more work than a flat godzilla!!!

HELP!!! PLEASE. I need to respond to her asap.

Thank you all for any advice!!!

Gosh, it's hard to even tell what it is! A crab monster? I'd charge somewhere between $60 and $75 seeing as how you're really going to have to put some thought into this one. I'd also ask the mom for a little more clarification on what exactly this creature is to make your job a little easier! Good luck!

I'd just make the body out of cake and the rest out of dried fondant cut-outs. Depending on how many it needs to feed you could just make it out of a small cake and put it on top of a sheet cake for servings - the monster could be the little boys to eat.

Good Luck!

LOL!!
I know, I don't know what it is either! I was going to charge 65, but I am also going to have to put this on top of another cake(probably 12x12x2 square), cause it needs to feed at least 25. But I didn't want to shock her with some outrageous price!! Would $75 be too much?
(I am now wishing he would have stuck with Godzilla!!!)

Thank you so much for the quick response.

Glad I am not the only one who doesn't know what it is!

How many are you feeding?? I would make a 8in square, and a 8x4 loaf Cut the loaf on a diagnal, then stack on the 8in, place a plastic dowel in the center, colored to the appropriate color. I would use royal or fondant for this part. The claws (this looks like a venus fly trap type monster) I would do out of gumpaste, just wing it. The feathers i would use gumpaste, Or use chocolate for those, the kids would really like to eat that. The antennas are probably the easiest, just use wire with a candy or gummy on the end, Using the hollow dowel in the center, i would fill with gumpaste and just stick the stuff in there.

I think you're right, the body could be cake and the rest fondant. That wouldn't be TOO bad. icon_smile.gif

Thank you all!!!!

I would contact the mother and ask her about the drawing becuase If she wants a 3d cake that would cost more money then what you quoted for a flat sheet godzilla cake. Mention to her to think about it and to claify the design because you can not make heads or tails out of it.

good luck, and if she becomes B***** about it well, I just would not do the cake if she can work with you and she keeps changing her mind. You do have a life and other projects to do. Again good luck icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

could you make a transfer of some sort and make a fondant plaque that you could dry out and stand on the cake also .....since it is cartoonish i would make like carttoon buildings the same way.

Thank you Peg!! Great idea! Yeah the antennae seem the easiest! LOL

Leana! Your post cracked me up! icon_biggrin.gif

The cartoon buildings idea sounds great! I think though, I am going to have a tough enough time just making the 'creature' . I will keep it in mind though.

Thanks y'all SO MUCH!!!!

Maybe you could ask mom if it would be okay to put the child's actual drawing on the cake in the colors he imagined. Blow it up a little bigger and do a FBCT....just a thought

How about doing it as a color flow standing up? or out of candymelts?
the only thing I can say is "good luck" after looking at the drawing.

It is only getting more involved! LOL

The eyeballs are on the end of the antennae (she suggested using licorice, but I think they will be too droopy after adding fondant eyes)

He wants the creature to land on clouds and sleep on them. icon_smile.gif I will just
make the bottom layer look like sky with clouds all around and him on top of one...

There are two sets of wings. I think I am going to make all the wings out of fondant and just color them with luster dust...if that will work.
Butrcup, thank ou for the suggestion, I just haven't had much success with candy melts and color. And I am scared to attempt it with color flow cause it might break.
Peachez, thank you for your suggestion too! I think he is wanting this creature to be 3-d though and not just a picture. (That would be too easy) icon_wink.gif

He says this creature is mean, not nice!!! icon_smile.gif
AND she wants half chocolate/half vanilla. I suggested that I could make one layer white and one layer chocolate.

She seems really nice, even offered to give me a deposit. I think we are just inside the imagination of a 9 year old boy.

HE HE, I asked my husband what he thought it was and he said he had no idea and then he freaked out when I told him it had to be standing up. LOL ha ha

Thank you ALL for your wonderful help and suggestions!!! I was really panicked this morning. But you all pulled me through and now I don't think it should be THAT bad. If it turns out ok, I will post the picture. Please pray for me!!! icon_wink.gif

Thanks again, y'all!

Good luck!

If the eye balls are on the end of the antenna, can you use two gum balls and just paint the eye on it, with food coloring

I will post it no matter what....y'all just can't laugh!! icon_wink.gif

Peg,
That is what the mom suggested, but I figured I wouldn't be able to keep them on. I will get some, just to try. icon_smile.gif Thank you!
