Me Again - Having An Identity Crisis!! Lol
Business By SweetSuzieQ Updated 10 Aug 2011 , 8:29pm by Kiddiekakes
I just cannot make up my mind and, getting so tired of changing it as often as I change my underwear. I have changed names, colors, logos a million times and, just have not been happy with anything.
I believe, I have FINALLY nailed the logo to give me inspiration for the look and feel of the website but, I keep changing the name. Crave was my original choice but, when mentioning the idea to people, I wasn't getting great feedback so, I changed to SuzieCakes which everybody but me seemed to LOVE. I had come up with a logo (or a few) and kept changing it up and, even went as far as to design a website (which I hated) and then design a completely different website (which I liked at first and, then didn't so much). So, I thought MAYBE it was the name that was holding me back from loving anything I designed so, late last night, I sat back down and went back to Crave and added Cupcakery and created a logo based on that. I tried, just to give it a shot, to change the Crave to SuzieCakes and, it was too long so, changed it to Suzie's Cupcakery and I like it.
Crave is still my tops but, was hoping for some feedback.
Whew, thanks for listening.
It's really up to you, but I like just Suzie's Cupcakes (not cupcakery) better. Cupcakery just doesn't sound right to me! lol
To me, Crave Cupcakery sounds more hip and urban; Suzie's Cupcakery sounds more friendly and personal. Either one is fine but I guess it depends on what you want your business "personality" to be.
Oh Vicki! Thank u for putting into words what I have been feeling! I definately want a more hip and urban feel with a bit of a swirly and sweet feel.
But, I also want it to have customer appeal which is why I went away from the original idea of Crave (the not so enthusiastic response to the name). Maybe I need to go back to those that gave me feedback and find out specifically what they don't like about it and go from there?
Another one I like is Delish Cupcakery but, Crave is my personal fav so, Ill work up both and get some feedback (in more detail this time).
So, on the actual logo itself, color, embelishments, shape, any feedback?
I personally love Crave as the name. However, I think Suzie's goes better with the S swirl on top of the cupcake. I also think you should consider removing the pink background to the logo. It needs to be recognizable from far. You may also have placement/sizing issues with the current layout as it's very tall.
About the logo: I find the "r" and the "a" (in Crave) with the fond you use hard to read.
In general I find the fond of the Suzie's, Crave and Delish does somehow not go along with the feel of the rest of the logo. The logo seems really sweet, and girly, but the "main"-fond doesn't reflect that feel.
Oh, and I'm in love with the cupcake in the background!
To me the logo background does not read "urban/hip" Way to formal? victorian? sweet? As far as the name, out of the 3 presented, Crave Cupcakery sounds the best to me. Also the color is throwing me off. It is reading really "hot" pink on my computer. A lighter pink and a cleaner graphic would seem more modern.
Love the name Crave. Hate the font. Don't like the word "Cupcakery", nor do I think putting one thing in your name a good idea. What if you want to do more than cupcakes? I don't know what's wrong with the word "Bakery".
Just my quick thoughts.
I have to agree with others, the font is a little hard to read. LOVE everything else.
Crave is a relatively common name for a bakery, and the local Crave Bakery in SF sells their (gluten-free) products wholesale in several states so you might want to watch out for that. There is also a live federal trademark on "Crave" covering retail cupcake shops, owned by Crave Cupcakes in TX.
Put me in the "Font is hard to read" category. It took me a minute to realize it said "Crave"
Sweet stirrings sounds like a coffee shop to me. I just picture stir sticks.
If "crave" isnt available, there are lots of one liners that will work and keep with your more hip business name vibe.
"Covet"
"To Die For"
"Sweet on"
"Lust After"
"Hankering"
"Desirous"
"Envious" or "Envy"
I don't think using "cupcakery" is bad, as long as you're comfortable being pigeon holed. If cupcakes are going to be your focal point, why not. You could also use "Confections" if you plan to expand equally into another area.
In regards to the logo, it seems like you have an idea that hasnt clearly translated yet. I think you should narrow more down and consider the overall feel you want people to get when they visit your website before settling on a logo. Right now it feels like a collaboration of all the styles you're considering. I would make some changes to some of the pink areas. It's a little Pepto-esque.
You have to go with your gut. I don't like Crave or Suzie's , but love cupcakery. I think that sounds urban and I am from a big city. If cupcakes is it, then it's fine. I do think Crave Cupcakes sounds better then cupcakery, but like someone said earlier, the Suzie's looks better next to the cupcake, cause the top of the siwrl does look like an S.
I kind of like your screen name, how about something with "sweet suzie's" in the name?
Are you selling only cupcakes?
Thanks everyone for some great thoughts!!! I really appreciate it!
I am located in Canada and, don't ever imagine crossing over the border so, as long as I register the business here, I will be fine. It certainly helps with naming options since so many cool ideas are already off limits in the US.
Thanks for the feedback on the color as well, I did this up last night late into the night and, so, tweaking the colors should be easy enough. I also see what everyone is saying regarding font and, will be on the hunt for something. I really like the Copperplate I used for Cupcakery but, am not really set in stone on the main part of the name font. I figure once I get this name thing decided on, I can play around with different fonts to see what works best with the word I choose! My girlfriend has been yipping in my ear about going with Frosted Cupcakery as well as other suggestions that I don't really like. HA I swear I had an easier time naming my children!!!!! LMFAO
As for the business, I intend to focus mainly on cupcakes or, treats in conjunction with cupcakes (like a single small fondant covered cake for the top of the cupcake tower for custom orders, etc.) but, Cupcakes will be the mainstay of the business. I do not have a storefront so, will be an online store with local pick up or delivery to the area for both standard or custom orders.
LMFAO, I could just call it Novel Cupcakes.
Novel Cupcakes - with the tag line "because during the naming process, I wrote one"
I like Suzie's Cupcakes.............can you use a different Font? The main font seems a tad outdated (p.s. if you want to sell purely just cupcakes alone this name is fine - but if you ever want to sell anything else, you may want to change the name slightly)
Not sure where you're located in Canada, but there's a small and very popular chain here in Calgary called Crave Cupcakes. You should check where their trademarks are valid before going ahead with your new name...

Yes, after doing further digging late last night I found the Calgary based Crave. They didn't come up when I googled but, I dound them while doing a WHOIS search so, Crave is off the table.
I had a gab/brainstorming fest with a few friends today and, we came up with Sweet Cupcakery so, back to the drawing board. It was funny cause hubby kept repeating SWEET all day like the Ashton Kutcher movie which caused him to throw out "Dude, Where's My Cupcake" LOL. The laughter is keeping me from going bonkers!
Don't like cupcakery at all.
I did think of crave cupcakes also, because that's what you want the customers to do, but now I see you can't use Crave.
I wouldn't go with anything too cutesy, but that's just my opinion. Don't hurry into picking a cutesy name in the initial excitement of opening up your business because you may regret the sound of it later.
If you're doing online only, how about Cupcakes to Go. Not cutesy but it'd get your message across.
I THINK we are getting close! LOL
I stripped it down and got rid of all the "fluff":
I still have to play with picking a bit more muted of a color palette and, the font but, at least there is progress! HA
