Graduation Cake

I had a last minute request for a graduation cake. She wants a white cap with a tassle. Do you just make a round cake with with a square board for the top and add the tassle or should I make a cake and a smaller cap to place on top?

Personally, because it's last minute, I'd say it's baker's choice and I'd take the path of lest resistance.

Why not just a tassel draped over the cake with the year on it and some school colors?

I have made grad cake hats by using the doll dress pan with a square cake on top if that helps....
