I'm making an 8th grade graduation cake for a boy who's into sports. He's played soccer, basketball, baseball, football and track. He did the high jump and running sprints. Obviously for most of them, I can just use whichever ball is used in the sport, but . . . what do I use for track? A shoe? I'm stumped.

The plan is to have the balls / track thing in flat form around the sides of the cake and then mini fondant versions on some cupcakes.

Any ideas?

If the cake is round you could do a running track around the top & put the balls in the middle, or put it around the side and the flat balls on top of it. What about a hurdle? I like the shoe idea. Maybe you could do something with the track numbers they pin on their shirts and use the #8 or the year and the boy's name &/or school.

have done several track and field cakes since my daughter is a athlete.
However, here is one we did for a multitalented athlete....the singlet represented track and look close and you will see baseballs , soccer balls and tennis balls in the flower arrangement.

Hope it helps
