Hello, I am new to all of this and I am giving baking a try here, I just find all the cool birthday and specialty cakes so interesting, besides the fact I want to make something really cool for my kids' birthdays. Anyways I was wondering what is the best, most affordable mixer to get? Also for people who are first starting off in this and know nothing but cooking what do you recommend?

The old school Kitchen Aids have a great reputation, they just keep going and going. However now that they are no longer made by Hobart, a lot of people are unhappy with them, they seem to be much poorer quality. Cuisinart seem to be a more reliable choice nowadays. Or a lot of people like Viking.
