Im going to be doing cupcakes for some out door parties and I love butter cream icing but not sure how it will stand up out doors. Would love your ideas.

For outdoor functions, I suggest a shortening based bc, since butter starts melting at about 85 degrees. Personally, I use sugarshack's bc recipe and everyone loves it. Indydebi's bc recipe is a popular one, too. Both recipes can be found on this site.

I second the shortening based BC suggestion, the recipe I use has no diary whatsoever so I never worry about outdoors or high temperatures.. Just shortening, icing sugar, vanilla & water.

I know Indydebi's recipe is also good for outdoors & high temperatures. She said she never refrigerates it so you might want to try her recipe..
