Hi everyone

I am a complete beginner at making cakes. I really want to make my daughter a Katy Perry themed cake. After seeing the one posted on here I am eager to give it a whirl (I know it wont be as perfect as the one on here but practice makes perfect ).

I was wondering if anyone can give me some basic tips on making the sponge, what 2 use and what to apply before adding the fondant. I have watched various videos on making the fondant and think I could do ok. Also ive looked up all of the accessories needed I just need a kick start on the actual cake before decorating. Please
