My DH birthday is coming soon and I don't know how to decorate it! I'm planning to make it a 1/2 sheet ice cream cake but I don't know what to do from then on. Most of the cakes I make have roses and vines aka Girly so I don't know how to make a pretty but masculine cake. Any one here in CC has pictures of how their cakes for their DH look like so I can get an idea going?

I would start by listing some things that he likes and take it from there. Once you have a idea of things he likes such as: hobbies, food, even color. Just brows arround and see if you can search some ideas off of those titles. Hopefully that can get you going. GOOD LUCK!!

Here's something masculine; another suggestion go to Michael's...Hobby Lobby any of the big craft stores and look through there scrapbook paper designs. They always hae a few masculine papers you can get inspiration from.

In my photos I have two cakes I made for my husband. One is the "frog prince" cake:

which I liked because it said "I love you" without being too mushy, and the other one is a dress shirt in a box:

The shirt cake lends itself quite nicely to being done with a sheet cake and it's fairly easy. I did the collar and buttons out of gumpaste and the cuffs, pockets and tie from either fondant, gumpaste or a mix of the two. Another idea I've had in the back of my head is to do a boxed sweater, kind of like the shirt cake, but with an argyle pattern similar to the one on the cake in yummy's post. On the other hand, the next one he's getting is probably going to be a basket of vegetables, since he's reformed his lifestyle quite a bit since having open-heart surgery last year. And I may just send him a picture of it so he won't be tempted to eat the whole thing!

I put a chocolate silhouette on my hubby's birthday cake this past year. He loved it!

That's really cute, SSGirly! I went to your blog and I really like it, too. I put it in my favorite links.

Thanks! I want to post it here, but I'm not sure if that qualifies as a naughty cake! lol

Yeah, I know what you mean! I see my last post wasn't all that clear. Let me rephrase it: I loved your cupcake and I also loved your blog. I put your blog in my favorites, so I can see what you've been doing from time to time.

I understood... and thanks, I'm flattered. The lady figure was actually surprisingly easy to do. I also made a bigger one to put on top of a cake for him.
