Imitation IS the highest form of flattery.

Having said that, do any of you have pictures of cakes you have made that have been copied?

I think it would be fun to see some copies side by side with the originals.

How about you show your copy next to the original?

Here's another...its older than both of the ones mentioned:

There's only so many ways you can do an R2D2 in 3D. Kudos to everyone who does do one though, they look great.

I realize that may have come across as snarky - sorry. Seen too many threads on here where someone accused someone else of copying their "original" design.

I think your copy of the many previous R2-D2 cakes looks good.

I didn't start the thread to be negative. And I wasn't claiming my R2 as "the" original.

I just wanted to see some side by sides...

This is kinda fun- I do tend to get my inspiration from others' work- I try to mix it up a bit, but sometimes, I'm just working on a technique (Just a hobby baker) so it feels like an accomplishment on my end when I can duplicate someone's beautiful work- but I would never take credit for the design! )

Thanks to all for the inspiration! I'd like to think that my creativity is improving as I get more experience. I'm now finding it easier to come up with my own designs, or at least my own spin on designs that I see here.

As I am at work (shhh!) and they block tons of stuff (including being able to see most pictures), I can't see any of yours. icon_sad.gif I am a sad panda.

I made a rosette cake (in my photos) that I originally saw on the i am baker site/tutorial (duh, where else LOL), if anyone is interested in looking.

I gotta check this thread again when I get home! I'm curious!

RE: the first post:
I don't know that the second R2D2 cake could be called a 'copy' as such...I mean yes it's a copy of R2D2 - as is the first cake - but I would say that both cakes look like that because that's what R2D2 looks like!!

I think it's fine to copy, when I did this copy, I was in a real pinch for time, and logged on here to trusty CC! Where would I be without all of you guys sharing your fabulous creations!
I did send Gledam a pm at the time, prior to posting my pictures as a courtesy, and also made sure to credit her original picture. Even if I've taken various elements of other cakes here on CC, I do try to credit the other decorators as far as possible.

I agree R2 is R2
I only listed it as a copy because the maker PM'ed me requesting info for pan sizes and how to's on constructing the support leg. I was flattered they wanted to emulate my cake.

I really like looking at the side by sides. Anytime a CC'er credits another decorator I go peek at the cake that was the inspiration.

I don't like to actually copy cakes but I am inspired. These are as close as I've come to creating a "copy" and I would call them strongly inspired by the originals icon_smile.gif.

How do you post a thread & picture here & also do it side by side? I had just about copied a cake from another CCr, but afterwards I pm'd her & told her that I would not post it because I had copied it. I never got a response abot if she minded or not, so I didn't. I totally LOVED her cake & just had to make it for my Grandson's first birthday. I am so inspired on this site & I, like others, will use another's design & maybe change it up some...giving vredit where is is due, of course.

Assuming R2D2 is copyrighted, it should neither be made nor copied if being sold.
