I am very new at this. I have made my first from scratch cakes just in the last couple weeks, but I am determined to get them right. So far, boxed or not, none of my cupcakes dome. I have used different recipes and even boxed mixes, and they all just end up flat. Is there a trick to the batter or just certain recipes that will dome?

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi! I learned from others on the CC forums that you should start your cupcakes out at 400 degrees for at least 7 minutes and then turn it down to 350 degrees to finish...I tried it and it works! I like the flat cupcakes for most decorations, but now I know what to do when it is time to have a dome. Hope that helps!

It deals with the temp when you put them into the oven.
Here is a recent thread about it.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I will try this tomorrow. It's been driving me crazy. Nice to know it's not something I am doing wrong with my batter.
