the only thing I can think of would be to buy Irn Bru syrup and either brush the cake with it until its infused or add some syrup to the batter before baking - you could then also use it in the buttercream. I'm not sure where you can get the syrup from though. Sorry, this probably isn't much use, but it's all I could think of.

Just found this on line:

1 cake 1½ hours 10 min prep

4 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup shortening
3 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon extract
6 ounces irn bru

Mix together first 4 ingredients

sift in flour

Blend in irn bru, vanilla and lemon extract

Bake at 180 for 1 hour and 10 minutes, Do not butter pan, Line with waxed paper.
