Does anyone know what these are? I have been finding them in my Betty Crocker cake mixes lately. [/i]

I have seen those also, after sifting. I think it might be some kind preservative; I just toss them.

I have seen it in white, chocolate, and strawberry. I toss them too, and haven't had any problems with how the cake bakes, but was just wondering if anyone knew what they were.

They just showed up within the last few months. I never saw it before.

I asked the company and they told me it's shortening, which doesn't make sense because they are hard. I also notice if you don't toss them out they bake into the cake and are a different color then the rest of the cake when cut.

maybe the flour and shortening aren't mixing all the way and just hardening up? i usually sift my cake mixes...might start doing it all the time... icon_confused.gif
