What a pretty cake!!
I've seen it mentioned here that a good starting point is total cost of ingredients X 3. More for fondant, extras and your time.

totally unrelated - TCTurtle: what part of Bayou Country? Bet I know what football game your watching tomorrow icon_smile.gif

My opinion is that it is worth at least $100 maybe $120. You are talking about at least 60 servings. Not sure the market you are in but a stacked cake demands more plus the fondant and chocolate.

I probably would have charged around $100 for a cake that size.

I would charge around 100 for it too...think of the time it took you, cost of ingredients, it adds up and you need to make sure you are not short selling yourself! Nice cake.

I'm curious (again) - how many of you make a cake BEFORE agreeing with the customer on how much the cost is?

NEVER! This cake from me would be $125, and my customer would know that in advance (and either accept it or go elsewhere - long gone are my days of working my butt off for a pittance!)

The client had agreed to pay $75 3 wks in advanced. I just wanted to see if i was in the ball park okay. Sorry i made it seem given a price before i made the cake.

I honestly didn't think it seemed that you had made the cake and then told your customer how much, I was just answering jmt1714's question! If I'm ever unsure of how much I should charge, I always ask here first! I made that mistake on a wedding cake I have booked for July, I gave a price (which the bride & groom thought was expensive, but still booked it), then asked on here what others would charge and found out that I undercharged myself by $250-$300! You live and learn I suppose! I love your cake, and I think you could (and should!) have charged more for it - it is very well done.

I think a lot of people on here may just use it for reference for future cakes.

I know that I used to use it as a reference ALOT and now I just use it occasionally. There is no better site than CC.
