Well its finally happening, i am only a hobby caker and do about 1 a month for family and friends, thru word of mouth people are asking me to do cakes for them, i would love to, but am not sure where to start with my pricing. I have scoped out a couple shops here and came up with some basic pricing (for buttercream no elaborate decorations) i cant get a hold of anyone for a more accurate price range for a fondant covered cake with figurines until tuesday. around here a 10" basic cake starts at $55.
I make all my own ingredients except fondant and bake from scratch. Here is a pic of style of cake i was asked to do.

I too am just starting out. One of the first things you need to determine is how much it cost you to make the cake. Don't estimate the cost. Really take the time to break it down per cup of sugar, flour etc. You will be amazed how much you spend. The other day a CCr posted an excel program that might help you. http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5711&sid=889469409433b9309608c13a27922f3f If this link doesn't work it was a "pricing matrix" that was posted in the forums.
