I did these cupcake bouquets for a friend. Yes, they were pricey to make. The styrofoam ball was $19.99. I ended up cutting it in half and then using "odds and ends" styrofoam from shipping boxes to support the ball. Next time, I'll get coupons and shop around for the styrofoam (although I saved them from this project). It took me about 16 hours + to make these and the pots were painted by another friend. The flowers are mostly gum paste because I was afraid buttercream would not hold up on a warm summer day. It was a tropical themed vow renewal.
Just a little tip for these that I don't think crosses minds. I get beautiful baskets/pots of all sizes at goodwill and other local thrift stores for under a dollar. It's glorious :)
I'm in California and I sell my half dozen in pot for $15 and a dozen for $25 (a lil more if i add extras). Pots, foam and tissue paper are fairly cheep so this covers the cost plenty!
khalstead - what is the plastic cup method. I live in the Philippines and it is very hard to find the Styrofoam balls and they are VERY expensive when I do find them.
