Why do my figurines have large cracks in them once they have dried? The cracks are so large that it looks as if the figurines actually burst open. I use 50/50 gumpaste and fondant combination for them.

i am wondering if you are kneading them enough before modelling? try adding crisco/trex to your hands when you knead prior to modelling. hope this helps

I use MMF + tylose, and I always microwave my fondant pieces before modeling with them...I get no cracks at all that way.

I had the same problem, then I got the advice on CC to ditch the gumpaste and switch to fondant mixed with tylose (or gumtex - same thing). It will give you more time to make the figurine and you won't get cracks and creases. Happy caking!
