I can eat those just for you! :-D Wasting food is considered to be a personal affront to the maker in many cultures. That does not mean that you have to eat things with the verve of Beldar Conehead, however. It simply means learning how you can increase your leftover food use.

II followed this thread yesterday when faced with incoming visitors and a pile of cake off-cuts.  The resulting recipe was a wicked winner.

Mystery pudding.

in layers, starting from the bottom,

Chocolate sponge, soaked in Moonlight, rum and coffee liquer

More sponge, with bits of chocolate

sliced banana

Carnation Caramel

more cake, drizzled with Bailey's

Custard

Whipped cream

Top with a chocolate squiggle.

It was a huge success.

Thanks for the inspiration.

I cut the cake in cubes, put different frostings in a three part dish and make a cake buffet

I usually save them for trifle, or if I'm moody, a snack :P

I make a lot of cake and cake pops but never throw anything away. Even when my family gets tired of cake I can whip something up with my scraps and always find someone that needs a lift with a special dessert . I don't believe in wasting anything when there are so many people in this country that would be glad just for the scraps. It's nice to see someone's face light up when they are having a bad day or when their funds are short and you show up with a pick me up.

ARecently I tossed several dark chocolate cake scraps in oven on low heat about 200 F and baked them dry as dry could be. Once cooled I crumbed them in food processor and tonight will use them in a triple chocolate cheesecake crust just to see if it works

Az, the above recipe might work. Instead of drop cookies, form into logs and bake. Might be worth a try.

AOh thanks! It's kind of shameful how little baking I do that isn't cake for an order. Like, none at all. :(

A long time ago, when I also did catering, I would take all the cake scraps and my leftover icing, add in some rum and chocolate and make rum balls.  People LOVED them (what's not to love about rum?!)  Recently, I have taken to saving some of my cake "humps" and making cheater whoopie pies for my DH's lunch.  He hasn't complained yet!!

AHey AZCouture your idea about making biscotti is right on the mark that is how my cake crumbs turned out when I baked and baked them then I put them into a cheesecake crust just like I said I would and man is it delicious. The finished twice baked cake crumbs tasted it and felt just like the biscotti it was delightful and surprising. There will be more experimenting of this nature in my future maybe next time I'll just cut them like biscotti instead of turning them into crumbs

This is such an old thread but a valuable topic. I use my cut off cake domes to make monster cakes. I stack the domes with a bit of icing in between the layers until I have the shape I want. I decorate with buttercream to look like a monster and sell them for a charity of my liking. I call mine rescue cakes and donate to the local animal shelter.

If one used my *original WASC cake recipe they would not have any domes - cake scraps :)     http://www.cakecentral.com/recipe/7445/the-original-wasc-cake-recipe
