I'm doing a test run this weekend for a superbowl cake i'll be making and I was going to use the grasstip to do a border and maybe even the sides of the cake. I was using some leftover BC I had to practice with it but its a cross between thin and medium consistency so i'm havng problems with it. I'm assuming it needs to be stiff consistency? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have done grass but I didn't have a grass tip and I don't know what it looks like. I used a writing tip and starting at the base I pulled upwards creating 'grass'. it came out just fine but I did have a stiff icing or your grass blades may fall over.

Medium to stiff is what I use. I have 2 pics in my photos using it. 1 is grass cupcakes with fall leaves and the other is an Elmo cake I just did for my 2 year old. check them to see if this what you might be wanting result wise.

That elmo cake is exactly what i'm looking for as far as how the grass should look because I don't want it too long. Maybe i'm just not using the tip right because It just doesn't look right lol. I'll keep trying, still got 2 weeks! Thanks so much!

I also touch the cake surface, apply heavy pressure and let it build up some then lighten my pressure as I raise the tip and then stop to cut it off.

I use medium/stiff consistancy as well...a bit more towards the medium though. Instead of thining my icing with water, I thin it with light corn syrup...that gives the icing a nice elasticity so your grass will pull out nicely and lay pretty well also. I did the Over The Hill cake I have posted in my pictures that way. Hope this helps some.
