it just looks like a very long knife without a handle. based on the low price, I think that's pretty much it

To me it looks like it might be a really long blade that you tort the cake with??? Like you would use a knife.

This is a new item for Magic Line..and their description is misleading... this item is for smoothing out cake icing....

I'm new here, so this may be old news, but I use a sewing tool to level my cakes. It's a 6" sewing ruler with a sliding tip that you can move to any level. I set it where I want it, then spin the cake and let the pointer on the ruler scrape a line on the side of the cake. Then I torte or level using the line as a guide.
