Kiddiekakes, I'd have to take a confused look off my face if she handed it back, but then again maybe not, according to my mood I might just tell her it was her's to keep. (then I'd just be REALLY embarrassed if she handed it back again).

On to the TEA TIME TALK----I hate tea. I fix tea for ice tea, so after I've run water thru the tea 3 different times to fill the pitcher they go into the trash.

Rude, rude, rude! Somebody missed her etiquette class in high school! If you are not interested just dispose of the card later.

As far as the tea bag...I like my tea like a like my coffee...really strong...like...walking around by itself...so no reusing the tea bag for me. I use 2 tea bags per cup icon_biggrin.gif

Kiddiekakes, I had someone do that to me with one of my brochures. Similar situation to yours. Cakes came up in a conversation with a stranger so I pulled out a brochure. He looks at it, gave me some nice comments, wished me luck and pushed brochure back across table to me. At first I was a bit confused. I pushed it back and told him he could keep it if he wanted. He surprisingly said, Really? They look like they cost you. I told him yes he could keep it and yes they were a little pricey but thats why I bought them, to get everyones attention and to give them away. So, that may have been what happened in your situation. Think positive icon_smile.gif

I gotta get in the tea debate because I'm a southerner and until last year that's all I ever drank besides coffee and so do most southerners, Ice Cold Sweet Tea. Now I drink green tea but family still drinks a gallon of sweet tea daily. Down here in SC most of us only use Luzianne. My mom used to bring water to a boil and then pour over tea bags in a tea pot. She would let it steep for an hour and then pour over sugar in a gallon pitcher. After sugar was dissolved she filled pitcher the rest of way with cold water. I modernized the process. I pop 2 family size Luzianne tea bags in coffee maker and then pour hot tea over sugar and adding cold water. Point of story is we could never reuse tea bags because there already used up down here, lol.

Kiddiekakes, I would have turned to the nearest person and said "Do YOU want this????" icon_biggrin.gif

And I DO re-use coffee grounds. Especially on Saturday, we just keep adding coffee to whatever's in the pot and add more water and turn the thing on again. Cheapie McCheapiekins, that's me. (Or maybe Lazy McLazykins. not sure which personality my re-fried coffee tendency comes from). icon_razz.gif

LOL - who would have thought my commet about the lady down the street would lead to 4 pages of Tea - icon_wink.gifthumbs_up.gif

I will admit - as we are heading into our 3rd year of drought - i do keep my DH's t/bags and dig then into the garden - as they are good little water saving devices - icon_biggrin.gif
Me, i am a 6 cups of coffee a day lady myself.
Only drink tea if not feeling well - or over tired.

Speaking of tired - time to hit the pillow - early start tomorrow.

I would just chalk it up to her being not interested. There will be many great people interested in your business so one lady who returns your card is probably not the client you want.

I don't know how old you are, but if you're a 20-something born in the U.S., you've been bombarded all your life with TV commercials for all kinds of disinfectants that try to convince you that germs in your toilet are very likely to kill you in your sleep,.......
Believe me, a teabag left on the counter overnight will never hurt you.

Lol "Toilet germs killing me in my sleep". I agree with you on the germs and the immunity because I was not born in the US and realized that as long as I was healthy and well taken care of in my home country, I was never killed by some of the diseases that seemed to kill other people who came to visit. I might fall sick, but recover quickly and develop a stronger resistance. However when I moved here I noted the preoccupation with antibacterial stuff, antibiotics, and the rise of super bugs. Anyway I guess a reused tea bag will not hurt me. However, I still will not try it. But if I see someone do it, I will not be grossed out out at them. I hope they do not offer me any though!

Call me rude, rude, rude, but I don't see anything wrong. It doesn't sound like she asked for a card, so why 'go out of your way' to give it to her. I actually find that to be more pushy and rude.

Also, if I am going to dispose of something later, I'd rather not take it in the first place. I hate when people give me flyers/brochure and I know I am going to dispose of them two minutes later.

I don't reuse my teabags because I'm too rough with them and they always end up tearing the second time around. I think because I like it stronger too and I smoosh it with my spoon to hard icon_redface.gif . I really don't think there would be anything wrong with using it again if it had enough strength left in it. I mean, it doesn't spoil or anything like that.

Im from the uk icon_biggrin.gif and my granny had a tea pot, in which she stuffed several teabags, poured in some water, set it on the oven and left it for hours to 'brew' . .Even after it was empty, it was simply refilled . . once those teabags were dead, the teapot was NEVER washed, she just added more bags . . . Its very much a location thing i think lol icon_biggrin.gif

Oh, and to the Op, it is weird, but i had a lady take my card, take out a pen, right my number down on a scrap of paper, hand me my card back and told me thanks very much . . . i just stood there in stunned silence thinking, well . . . I thought id saved you the trouble of doing that but never mind :/ lol

Older folks tend to be penny conscious and will return little things that might save you a dime .... like biz cards.

Other people who are also in business understand the cost of marketing materials and the polite ones may not take something they wont' use just because they KNOW what it costs you. My daughter just started selling Mary Kay. She brought me my order and I gave her the plastic bag back, saying "Here .... these probably cost you, don't they?" She grabbed it and said "They sure do!"

As many of you know, our household recently downsized (YAY!) and I will NOT bring a bunch of trash into the house anymore. Not saying yoru card was trash, but if she was just going to throw it away anyway, then if it was me, I'd choose just not to take it to start with.

And who knows .... she's probably on another forum telling all of her online friends about how she just HAPPENED to mention the word "cake" and ".....some lady SHOVES her card in my face without even knowing if I WANT a cake!" icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

How she handled it could have been handled better .... but there could have been a plethora of reasons why she handed it back.

I've grownup and still live in South Carolina. Your tea pot story reminded of how the older women around here cook. My Grandma and Mom rarely washed the deep iron skillet they used for frying chicken. They would just put the pan in oven after frying chicken for safe keeping until the next time they fried chicken. I even know of people that have an old coffee can on their stove for used bacon grease. They use this for flavoring other dishes. I find this a bit gross and do not cook this way but, it obviously won't kill you because that's the food I was raised on and people still cook that way down here. (I don't eat anything fried)

I can relate to you Kim. I personally drink a gallon of sweet ice tea a day. icon_razz.gif I brew mine in the coffee maker and then run cold water over the tea bags until I have filled the pitcher. I use 4 family size tea bags per gal. pitcher, so I guess I like my tea a lil strong. I want to get all the tea flavor that I can, so after running water over them, I actually squeeze them really good. There's no way that I could re-use them, because I am way to rough on them. icon_lol.gif

As for the card being given back to the OP, don't let it bother you. She may have been trying to save you the expense of the card. If not, and she was truly being rude, then she probably did you a favor by giving it back, so that you don't have to deal with her being a difficult customer later on. thumbs_up.gif

Now, as a Brit - and we're known for our love of tea - I have to disagree.

One of the reasons that tea never tastes the same as at home is that we always make it with water which has been boiled in the kettle as soon as it's boiled. Don't leave it for even a minute. It has to be boiling water.

Anyway, this post has really digressed from the original post! My first thought was what was said earlier (I'm sorry I can't remember who posted it). Maybe she didn't want to 'waste' one of your cards. I've had people do the same to me. I just say "no, it's fine... please keep the card".

You CAN reuse a tea bag for your eyes...brew your tea, put the bag in cold water and place it on your tired eyes for a "refresher". Drink your tea while you are relaxing with your tea-bag covered eyes.

and when my youngest was born and she wouldn't nurse, and I got engorged, the doctor told me to put warm tea bags in my bra. I could not BELIEVE the relief this gave me! (of course I couldn't use the bra anymore 'coz it was all tea-stained now, but a GREAT way to use "used" tea bags!) icon_lol.gif

I agree with the above comment - she knows she will never splurge on a high end cake and didn't want to waste your card. I have a relative who does the same thing (sandwich bag reuser - lol) and he does things that just seem so repulsive to me yet I think he feels he is doing people a favor. If he has no use for a gift someone gives to him - he won't regift it or toss it away - he'll actually give the gift back to them (like leave it on their table before he leaves their home or something like that) but of course if it's something he wants he'll take it for sure. People learn soon enough not to give him stuff he doesn't want so it does work - unfortunately for him he doesn't have a lot of long time friends for some odd reasonicon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_smile.gif
