I know this sounds like a stupid question but I normally use cake boards wooden and cardboard. I will be investing in silver cake stands soon. Do you put the cake directly on the stand or leave it on the board. If you leave it on the board just cover with border? Help?

Leave it on its own board if you don't want knife cut marks and scratches on your stand.

Yes, the border will hide any raw edge that may otherwise show as long as your board is the same size as the cake.
